It was Halloween night. The moon shown over the river, and thick fog hung over shoreline giving off an eerie glow. A dog wandered along the road and wined. Through the thick fog a small boat appeared. The craft docked on the riverbank and a shadowy figure emerged. He pulled his craft upon the shore and stepped upon the beach. He was strange figure dressed in a dark suit of clothing and a tricorn hat.
From a distance a set of lights came into view and a vehicle screeched to a halt. The driver got out and surveyed the situation. He observed a man lying in the road dressed in some sort of costume. The figure groaned and rolled over. " Are you all right?" the driver was distraught. He pulled out his phone and started to dial an ambulance. Just then the man sat up.
" It seems that I am." said the main checking himself over. He was staring at the driver who was holding his phone in his hand. He then stared at the car now on the shoulder of the road.
"I'm going to call an ambulance." The driver said to the man. "Don't move." He instructed. The man ignored him and pulled himself to a kneeling, then to a standing position.
A siren could be heard in the distance. The driver could now see the man more clearly. " Where are you from? Can I call someone for you? Unless you want to. Is your cellphone broken?"
Once again the man looked at the driver strangely." What is this cellphone that you speak of? What manner of carriage are you driving without a horse?"
" I am from Boston, I am on my way across the river. Do you not know the peril that you are in? Be warned the regulars are coming. Pass the word." The man turned and placed his tricorn hat squarely upon his head."
The driver said to himself,"this man surely has a head injury. "Sir, what is your name?" he asked.
" Paul," he stated and turned away back towards the river.
Just then a state trooper pulled up to the scene and extinguished his siren. His lights lit up the night and he got out of his squad car.
" I must go," said the mysterious stranger. Then he turned back towards his boat and placed it back into the river. Then he was gone.
" Sir, what is the situation here? " asked the state trooper." There was a call about a pedestrian being struck by a car. Is this correct?" Said the trooper surveying the scene. "Where is the victim?" he asked.
"He's gone," stated the driver. "I don't know. "He climbed into a boat and disappeared. "
